Oregon, Pacific Gate Works began when two craftsmen –
a metal worker and a wood worker – were searching for
a unique way to combine their passions. Our designs utilize
time-tested techniques to bring out the natural beauty of
Western Red Cedar. Combining this beauty with the strength
of iron makes each gate one-of-a-kind. Simplicity and functionality
in our gates render a timeless quality that easily melds with
a variety of architectural styles.
Custom
wood gates set a property apart and provide a unique welcome
for you and your visitors. Our craftspeople will customize
your pedestrian and driveway gates to meet your design specifications,
tailoring a custom gate to meet your exact needs. We also
offer standard sizes which offer the economy of a ‘stock’
product while maintaining our standard of quality. For all
orders, dimensioned computer drawings are provided to ensure
your confidence for a lifetime of purposeful use and enjoyment.
The most critical consideration in building a wood gate is
material selection. We use only clear grade, kiln-dried Western
Red Cedar. Each board is carefully examined for structural
quality, resulting in unity, symmetry and consistency throughout.
Through this process each gate acquires its own unique character
and becomes truly distinctive. When required for structural
stability and to prevent sagging, we use steel support frames
which are powder coated for maximum corrosion resistance and
easy long-term care.
Mortise and
tenon joinery is used to join the wood frame members. It is
the strongest wood-to-wood connection. Panels within the wood
frame are tongue and groove construction and ‘float’
within the rail and stile framework. Both the mortise and
tenon joinery and the tongue and groove construction allow
for the expansion and contraction of the wood through the
changing seasons.
All of our metal
art options are made from high quality raw materials and all
joints are welded and ground in our metal shop. We have a
large supply base for varying shapes and sizes of metal art
